Production Schedule

Here are the dates of what the other memeber of my group and I have planned to complete during the production of our music video. The location, equipment and the people required are also included. this will enable us to be more organised, so that we are up-to-date with the production of our music video and so everything goes to plan.
We had to decide the best days for both ourselves (film crew) aswell as the actors due to other issues such as other school subjects or work and any other issue that may prevent the production if this producion schedule was not created.

Practice Music Video

Here I have filmed a practice music video. This enabled me to practice before making my actual coursework music video. Although i did not add many transitions or filters or any extra editing techniques, as this piece is just a practice.
I also did not use Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 to edit, but instead I used Windows Movie Maker as I had filmed this piece in my own spare time with no intentions of relating it to my actual coursework ideas and also this practice does not involve the other member of my group,
but I felt it would be relevant to include this for an example practice piece.

Research: Green Screen Practice

The other member of my group and I have decided to use the green screen effect in our music video. Although we did not know how to use the green screen effect in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5, we researched a tutorial online which is shwon above. This helped us to learn about the green screen effect in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 and were were able to be clearly guided through the process of creating the green screen effect.

Here is an image of the set-up of our green screen.
Due to the creases from transportation, we had to iron the green screen as the creases may affect our green screen effect.

We then decided to do a practice scene with the green screen before we did our final piece so we could familiarise ourselves with the software and understand how to create the effect without any difficulties.
This image below was taken after we ironed the green screen, to enable a better effect.

Below is a print screen of our footage in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5

While learning how to use the green screen effect on Adobe Premiere Pro CS5, we came across a few problems such as areas on the actress' body that appeared opaque revealling the back ground image onto her clothing. But with the help of the tutorial we were able to fix this and this resulted in a very good piece of practice footage!

Below is the final green screen practice footage.

Storyboard Animatic

Here is the Storyboard Animatic.
This is where the other group member and I drew out some rough sketches of each scenes for our music video idea.
(Please note that these are only rough ideas so we may or may not follow this all the way through for our final music video)

Locations Permission (Update)

The other group member and I verbally asked the park owners of Forty Hall Park for permission to use the park for a couple hours to film for our Media Studies Coursework. Thankfully they had granted us the permission, so we have successfully been able to film the scenes in the park for our music video!

Location Report

The other group member and I decided on number of places we could possible film some scenes for our music video, base don the type of music video we are doing. We want to make sure we portray the right location for the mood and also reflect the lyrics of the song.
Listed below are the locations we aim to use for our music video.

- Forty Hall Park (Written/ Verbal Permission from council/ park owners needed)
- St Anne's Catholic High School For Girls Hall, various corridors and Drama Room (Permission already granted)
- Family Member's House (Eloise's Sisters House)

Although we also had to bare in mind all complications that may occur while filming in these locations listed. For example, not having permission from the council or park owners therefore not being able to use the location. Also using corridors in the school because people may be walking around and may distract actors or walk into shot and at Eloise's sisters house we have to make sure that her sister grants permission for actors and myself to film in her house.

Adele - One And Only Lyrics

"One And Only"

You've been on my mind
I grow fonder every day,
Lose myself in time
Just thinking of your face
God only knows
Why it's taking me so long
To let my doubts go
You're the only one that I want

I don't know why I'm scared, I've been here before
Every feeling, every word, I've imagined it all,
You never know if you never try
To forgive your past and simply be mine

I dare you to let me be your, your one and only
Promise I'm worthy to hold in your arms
So come on and give me the chance
To prove that I'm the one who can
Walk that mile until the end starts

I've been on your mind
You hang on every word I say, lose yourself in time
At the mention of my name,
Will I ever know how it feels to hold you close?
And have you tell me whichever road I choose you'll go

I don't know why I'm scared 'cause I've been here before
Every feeling every word, I've imagined it all,
You never know if you never tried
To forgive your past and simply be mine

I dare you to let me be your, your one and only
I promise I'm worthy to hold in your arms
So come on and give me the chance
To prove that I'm the one who can
Walk that mile until the end starts

I know it ain't easy
Giving up your heart
I know it ain't easy
Giving up your heart

(Nobody's perfect, trust me I've learnt it)
I know it ain't easy, giving up your heart
(Nobody's perfect, trust me I've learnt it)
I know it ain't easy, giving up your heart

I know it ain't easy
Giving up your heart

So I dare you to let me be your, your one and only
I promise I'm worthy to hold in your arms
So come on and give me the chance
To prove I'm the one who can
Walk that mile until the end starts
Come on and give me a chance
To prove that I'm the one who can

Walk that mile until the end starts.

Letter To Record Company

This is the exact letter my group and I sent to the artist (Adele)'s record company.
As you can see the letter is addressed to 'Sony Music Entertainment' even thought her record labels are XL and Columbia Records.
The reason for this is so that we can be sure that we have the permission to make the music video for the song we had chosen as this is an important legal requirement.

Dear Sir/Madam,
We are Media Studies students from St. Anne’s Catholic High School for Girls in Palmers Green, North London, writing to you on the hope of getting permission to use a song by one of your artists to make a music video for our A level Media Studies coursework.
The song in question is `One and Only` by Adele on her album `21` on behalf of the record labels XL, Columbia, we are aware there is no music video already produced for this song and we would greatly appreciate permission to use this song, as we believe this song will give us a lot of inspiration into making a brilliant video, and we could send you a finished product of our A level piece.

Yours sincerely,

Eloise Larkin-Hinds
Natalie Ernestine

General Research - Music Videos

General research – Music videos

A music video is a short piece of footage that represents a song from an artist which is shown visually. Most music videos feature the artist who recorded the song singing or lip-syncing their own song on-screen. Although the artist is not always in the video, dialogue could be included into a music video like a film which entertains audiences. Usually a music video is released after a song is made but it is not always the case.

Music videos use various styles of film making techniques such as live action filming, pre-recorded filming, animation, documentaries, bricolage where references of different things that have been already created for example including clips of other existing films that relate to the song. But it could also be used for entertainment purposes such as showing clips of a very popular film which has gained high publicity which will then attract audiences who were interested in that certain film but is simply not related to the song lyrics/ or artist.

Here are some music websites that show music videos

Production Schedule

Production Schedule

This is the production schedule, this endabled me and my group memebers to organise which day would be convientent for all people invovled in the filming off our thriller movie. so that all actors/ actors needed for a session on a specific date are able to attend each session in order for successfull filming.

We had to chose days that all of us were in school as the setting of our film was in our school, but most of the filming sessions were either after school or in our free time, becasue we couldn't interfear with lessons and our learning and we had to also organise where we will be filming and the length of time we will be filming.

Key Points For The Thriller Movie

Key points for the movie

This is a slide show of key points of out thriller movie and what we will include and what precautions we wll make in order of a successfull thriller movie. it includes risk assessments and the location in which our thriller movie will be filmed,

Filming Equipment

The filming equipment I used was a Canon LEGRIA FS306. This camera has a good quality picture.

This camera is small and portable which makes it  easier to film shots steadily. There is also a part where a memory card (SD) can be inserted in.

I will be used a standard tripod to aid the camera so that there is a grater chance of steady shots.

For the editing I used a software called Adobe Premiere CS5, which enables me to make sure my final piece is rendered and all shots are consistent.
